The Canon EOS Rebel T7i DSLR is the latest in the EOS Rebel series. Upgraded from the T6i with a full 24.2 megapixels of resolution. It shares many of the features from the Canon 80D, but at a lower cost and weight. The T7i HD movie mode shoots Full 1080p HD Video at popular frame rates 1080p @24fps, 30fps and 60fps and with manual exposure control.
The big upgrade in the T7i over the previous model is the inclusion of the excellent Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus system with phase detection. This AF system is not only fast and responsive, but keeps focus locked on your target whether shooting still pictures or the more demanding video focusing. The auto-focus system was upgraded to 45 autofocus points (all cross-type). The T7i has a high resolution flip out articulating 3-inch LCD touchscreen (1,040,000 dots), to get hard to get shots, and for Vlogging. A new Digic 7 Image Processor has been installed, giving you 5.0 fps continuous shooting, lower shutter lag, and faster operations. The camera has an HDMI port to hookup to an HDTV and an External Microphone Jack for better sound options along with manual audio control. EOS Dust Removal System removes dust from the sensor automatically.
Canon T7i Features: The Rebel T7i’s Intelligent Viewfinder has 98% field of view and a wide viewing angle. Greatly improved low light performance, including an upgraded ISO 25600. 63-zone evaluative metering system. A display off sensor, turns off the LCD when you are looking through the viewfinder. Upgraded to 45-point all cross-type AF system. Compatibility with over 103 Canon EF Lenses. Upgraded to the new DIGIC 7 Image Processor (same as the EOS 77D), which provides fast, accurate image processing, AF, and faster startup time. HDMI out to HDTV. Built-in WiFi & NFC.
Canon EOS T7i Vs. T6i Upgrade Features: The T7i is greatly upgraded from the T6i. Upgrades include a new autofocus system. Canon has one of the best autofocus systems, called Dual Pixel CMOS, which the T7i now has installed. The Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus system is phase detection based and is excellent for stills or videos. You can touch focus to instantly change the focus, and the AF points on this camera have increased from 19 to 45. The image processor has been upgraded to the Digic 7 Processor for faster operations, startup, and focusing. For better low light performance, ISO was upgraded from 12800 to 25600. A new 60p framerate has been added to Full HD recording. Burst Rate has increased from 4.8 to 6.0 frames/second.
Shutter speeds: 30 – 1/8000 second, ISO: from 100-25800 (expandable to 51200). Burst Mode: 6.0 fps, Built-in Flash.
Memory Cards: SD/SDHC/SDXC. Lithium-ion battery LP-E17 (included). USB 2.0.
Kit Lens Options: 18-135mm or 18-55mm EF-S f/3.5-5.6 STM Lens.
Video: approximately 44 to 128 minutes of 1080p video can fit on a 32gb SDHC memory card (using ALL-I or IPB compression).
Dimensions: 5.5″ x 4.1″ x 3.1″ ( 26.7 ounces w/ battery).
Smart-Review Commentary: Canon’s Rebel T7i is a midrange entry with most of the power of the higher priced cameras, but at a much lower cost, size and weight. The Rebel T7i has an upgraded auto-focus system with Dual Pixel CMOS and 45 focus points. It has the powerful Digic 7 processor, and 24.2 megapixel sensor, with improved ISO. The excellent flip-out tilt swivel touchscreen allows you to point at subjects to focus on, and does an excellent job at focus pull (in video mode) when you point to another subject on the touchscreen to focus on. This is great for fast action and interviews where you can’t manually focus fast enough to follow the action. Also ideal for Vlogging.
