The main differences between the Dyson Animal 2 and Dyson V11 Vacuums: The main difference is that the Dyson V11 is cordless and Dyson Animal 2 is corded. The V11 Torque Drive stick vacuum is about 1/3 the weight of the Animal 2, but its dust bin size is much smaller, as would be expected. Both vacuums have strong suction, with the corded Animal 2 having 270 airwatts or suction Vs. 180 airwatts of the V11. The Animal 2 uses a traditional Hose + Wand for off floor cleaning. The V11 cordless uses a detachable handheld vacuum.
The cordless V11 is the first Dyson to have an LCD status screen to see what mode you are in, minutes remaining on battery, and maintenance alerts. See the comparison chart below for key similarities & differences in features.

The Bottom Line: Dyson Animal 2 (corded) Vs. Dyson V11 Torque Drive (cordless) – Both vacuums are powerful cleaning machines. Both have the power to tackle pet hair, dust and dirt, with a motorized brushroll, which is great for carpets. For raw power, the Animal 2 has more suction, but for adequate power and lightweight flexibility, the V11 wins.
Dyson V11 (cordless) Pros Vs. Animal 2 (corded): The V11 is a cordless vacuum, so no tangling of cords or outlets to find. It is extremely lightweight (about 1/3 the weight of the Animal 2). The V11 Absolute detaches as a lightweight handheld, which can be used on stairs, upholstery, and car interiors. The pet tool is motorized for more power. The V11 has a very low profile and can easily fit under some of the lowest furniture. The V11 has a 3-position suction switch on the motorized floor tool (not on the Animal 2). The V11 also has 3 levels of power, the Animal 2 has one. The dust ejection system on the V11 is superior to the Animal 2, as it scrapes clean the screen as it empties the bin.
Dyson V11 Cordless Vs. Animal 2: The V11 has a much smaller dust bin. Being battery powered has its time limitations vs. the corded Animal 2. The suction power is lower than the corded Dyson Animal 2, but still very powerful. The V11 pet tool has a traditional rotating brushroll, the Dyson Animal 2 has a “tangle-free” turbo pet tool with counter-rotating brushes.
Final Thoughts: Both vacuums are ideal for removing pet hair, as they have Dyson’s strong suction, capable brushrolls, and other tools to remove pet hair. Both machines have whole machine HEPA filtration, so you won’t be breathing in dust or allergens. The Brushroll can be turned off on the Dyson Animal 2, the V11 cordless uses a multi-floor brushroll designed for carpet & hard floors. We have used both vacuums in an apartment setting, and have retired our corded vacuum in favor of the cordless. The V11 cleans and grooms the carpet like a full size upright. The V11 gets up to 60 minutes of cleaning time (less with motorized tools attached). We find it is liberating not having a cord, and the light weight, low profile, and detachable handheld make it fun to use in a variety of cleaning settings. As of the writing of this article, the Dyson V11 is more expensive than the Animal 2 vacuum.
**Note: There is another version of the Animal 2, called Total Clean, which has Extra Cleaning Tools that attach to the wand and hose. A nice storage bag is provided to store all of these tools.
Dyson Total Clean Extra Tools: Carbon Fiber Soft Dusting Brush, Multi-Angle Brush, Mattress Tool, and Reach Under Tool.

What makes Dyson Unique- Main Differences: Dyson invented the cyclonic bagless vacuum, and has been an innovator in the bagless vacuum category. Dyson is also known for strong, powerful, suction. One area that Dyson stands out is its tools. One in particular is the Tangle-Free Pet Tubine Tool, which we believe is the best air driven tool for pet hair on the market. We have seen this tool demonstrated, and it can pick up long hair and even shoelaces without wrapping around the brushes. This accessory comes standard comes with Dyson Animal Corded Vacuums. Dyson invented Ball™ technology, that lets the vacuums ride on a ball to easily maneuver around obstacles.
Dyson Cordless Vacuums: Dyson is a true innovator, and has reinvented the cordless vacuum. Our testing has shown that the V11 cordless vacuum truly does have the power of an upright, yet weighs about 1/3 of the weight. Performance on carpeting is excellent, and even grooms the carpet like an upright. Dyson’s 14 concentric array cyclones separates out dust and dirt and assures no loss of suction, and no clogged filter. The multi-floor brush has nylon bristles for carpets, and carbon fibers for hard floors. The V10 and V11 has a 3 position switch on the multi-floor tool that adjusts suction.
